Facebook 3D Posts: Building a New Media Type

In October 2017, Facebook launched 3D posts: a new media type supporting native 3D objects in the Facebook News Feed and Facebook Spaces. Various content upload paths were made available, allowing users to link or upload glTF files directly to Facebook via desktop and mobile devices, or from in VR via Oculus Medium and Spaces. At F8 2018, Facebook announced that soon 3D posts could be used as AR objects inside Facebook’s Camera.

Role: Lead Product Designer
Tasks: multi-surface UX design for sharing, uploading, and browsing; creation of new media type’s visual identity, iconography, interface and loading graphics
